Hong Kong Island Events - December 2026
December on the island is four big dates and one long season: the music festival on the Central waterfront, the International Jockeys' Championship at Happy Valley, the Christmas race nights, and the countdown over Victoria Harbour. Friday 4 - Sunday 6 December 2026 · Central Harbourfront Event Space, 9 Lung Wo Road, Central
Entry: Ticketed - buy only through Ticketflap, the festival's official outlet.
Why go: Three days of headline music on the Central waterfront, a ten-minute walk from Central MTR and a short hop from the Star Ferry. Whether you go for one day or all three, the venue is the easiest big-festival site in the city to reach - and the harbour is the backdrop.

LONGINES International Jockeys' Championship
Wednesday 9 December 2026, evening · Happy Valley Racecourse, Wong Nai Chung Road, Happy Valley
Why go: Four races worth a combined HK$7.5 million, with a further HK$1 million in bonus prizemoney, ridden by the top of the world championship standings - Moore, McDonald, Buick, Barzalona and Purton are the five named by the Jockey Club. It is the one night of the year the Happy Valley card is a proper international fixture, and it is played on the same public-enclosure track as any other Wednesday night.
Verified against the Jockey Club campaign page (9 December, Happy Valley) and HKJC Racing News, which gives the four races, the HK$7.5 million in prizemoney, the HK$1 million bonus fund and the named riders; the fixture list confirms a Wednesday night meeting at Happy Valley.

Happy Wednesday - Winter Wonderland race nights
Wednesdays 16 and 23 December 2026, from 6pm · Happy Valley Racecourse, Happy Valley
Entry: HK$10 for the public enclosure; free for visitors on a valid travel document.
Why go: The December race nights get the full Christmas treatment - lights, seasonal food stalls and the same HK$10 gate - and they are the easiest evening to bring children or a group to. Two nights only, both midweek, both a tram ride from Central.
Verified against the Jockey Club's racecourse events calendar (Night Race, Happy Wednesday Winter Wonderland, 16 December) and the fixture list (Happy Valley on Wednesdays 16 and 23 December); the Hong Kong Tourism Board prints "16 & 23 December 2026", the 6pm gate and the HK$10 enclosure. Hong Kong New Year Countdown Celebrations
Thursday 31 December 2026, at midnight · Victoria Harbour - the Wan Chai and Causeway Bay waterfront is the island-side view
Entry: Free to watch from the harbourfront.
Why go: A fireworks musical over the harbour at midnight, with the island's own waterfront as the front row. No ticket, no venue, no queue - pick a spot along the Wan Chai or Causeway Bay promenade in the early evening and stay put.
Verified against the Hong Kong Tourism Board release of 11 August 2026 (31 December, Victoria Harbour, a fireworks musical over the harbour) and The HK HUB, which prints the date and the midnight timing.

Running through December
Three season-long fixtures overlap this month. They are listed once, in full, on the runs and seasons section of the 2026 hub:
- Hong Kong Brands and Products Expo 2026 (60th edition) - 12 December 2026 to 4 January 2027, 24 days, 11:00-21:00, Victoria Park, Causeway Bay, HK$10. It closes in January, so the closing date is carried on the January 2027 page.
- AIA Carnival 2026/27 - 22 December 2026 to 21 February 2027 (62 days) at the Central Harbourfront, so it is still running well into February.
- Hong Kong WinterFest 2026/27 - November 2026 to early January 2027; the Christmas Town, the 20-metre tree and the Central light show.
One November item closes inside this month: the Hong Kong Squash Open, which opened at Edinburgh Place on 30 November, plays its final rounds at Edinburgh Place from 3 to 6 December and finishes on 6 December - the full entry is on the November page.
Public holidays: Christmas Day falls on Friday 25 December 2026, with the first weekday after Christmas on Saturday 26 December 2026.
